About Us
Welcome to Digging the Past.
I dig the past, and that’s why I started an excellent summer learning experience for curious, creative, awesome kids in the Denver, Colorado area!
First, I want to assure you the safety of your children. I have my own son and prioritize safety at camp. I partner only with organizations that have a secure dig site. Everyone on site goes through a background check; in fifteen years in and out of the classroom, I’ve never had a significant safety issue. I also work to counteract environmental impact, recycling all materials and only using a small amount of water in our process. I understand how seriously we all take education, so my camps are standards-based, yet student-centered.
You can trust that your child will receive a unique education in a safe environment where any ideas can be freely expressed. They will be encouraged to think, collaborate and create. They will be challenged intellectually. But they will always be the driving force; we are simply there to guide them through the wonderful colors of the canvas they naturally generate when their brains breathe without constraint.
But all that learning aside...this is FUN! Your child will be outside digging in the dirt! They will be physically tested - working two to three hours each day (with water and snack breaks, and lots of shade :), and will for sure come home spent and dirty! Campers play games (often opening up a whole new world of learning), make new friends, and experience the confidence that develops as they take ownership of their own summer learning journey.
My personal background is in History (M.A.) and Education (M.S.), with a professional certification in the social sciences. In 2008, I co-founded a home-school cooperative at Koinonia Farms using a holistic approach to curriculum. I currently teach History and Education at the University of Colorado and Metropolitan State University of Denver.
Our mission is to provide affordable access to exceptional, experiential student-driven education.
Thank you for your interest in Digging The Past Day Camps!
