A Day Digging the Past

Sample Schedule (K-4)

 

8:00-9:00: “Centering;” arrival; learn and practice archaeology and history concepts and techniques*

 

9:00-11:00: DIG!**

 

11:00-12:00: Students work inside the classroom in both large and small groups to debrief, recreate the dig,

working to understand function and context, and developing a story 

 

12:00-12:30: Lunch (students bring their own lunch; refrigerator available)

 

12:30-3:00: Students play a variety of games, developing teamwork and their understanding of anthropological, archaeological and historical concepts

 

3:00-5:00: Extended-Enrichment Option (includes helping set up and maintain the dig site, films, PowerPoints, and additional extended learning activities)***

 

 

 

*On Mondays, we will spend more time reviewing procedures and teaching how to dig, process artifacts and create the story; Tuesdays through Thursdays we will start digging at approximately 8:30. On Fridays, we do not dig, but set up for the museum exhibition celebration; lunch is provided for all!

 

**Snack at 10:00 (provided; campers may break anytime- digging is fun, hard work!)

 

***Additional healthy snack provided for enrichment (you may list any allergies on registration form and we will accommodate)
